Key Stakeholders See the Future of Farnborough Take Off

Farnborough International welcomed its key stakeholders and local VIPs to take a look at the construction progress of the new Hall 1.

Farnborough International welcomed its key stakeholders and local VIPs to take a look at the construction progress of the new Hall 1. The new 20,000sqm multi-purpose flexible event space is currently in week 33 of a 69-week build and is due to open in February 2018.

Attendees today included members from the unique funding consortium, comprising Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), Hampshire County Council, Rushmoor Borough Council and Barclays Bank together provided the £30m funding for the project. All were delighted to be able to see the development of the facility which is set to become the leading events venue for the South of England, outside London.

When completed, Hall 1 will continue to build on Farnborough International’s firmly-established reputation as a business events destination and home to the world-famous Airshow.

Venue Director, Michael Watton comments on the success of the event: “This was a great opportunity to celebrate a unique development for Farnborough, made possible by the vision shown by our funding partners. We are proud to be able to secure the future of both the Airshow and the ongoing events business through this innovative funding arrangement. With five events already secured for the new Hall 1 along with the next Farnborough International Airshow the venue will bring significant economic benefits to our area for years to come.”

Geoff French, CBE, Chair of Enterprise M3 LEP Board said: “It is heartening to see the remarkable progress made in the development of this world-class Exhibition and Conference Centre. We look forward to the next Farnborough Airshow in 2018 when the Exhibition and Conference Centre will host the world’s aviation and aerospace industry, supporting billions of pounds worth of trade deals and bringing significant economic benefits to our area.”

Geoff added: “We are proud to have played a leading role in harnessing the partnership needed to fund this project and we are confident that it will make Farnborough an important hub for international business events in addition to the Airshow."

The new purpose built venue space will be flexible enough to cater for almost any kind of exhibition, conference, meeting, dinner or launch event thanks to 12,500sqm of exhibition space, conference space for up to 2,500 delegates and nine purpose-built function rooms.

Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre’s innovative building design was developed by the architects Terence O’Rourke and the look and feel of the structure draws heavily on Farnborough’s association with aerospace testing and development in Farnborough’s famous wind tunnels.
