Growth in the Business Aviation Sector

Share This Blog Entry:

Brandon O’Reilly, CEO of TAG Farnborough Airport gives his perspective on how the airport is helping to drive growth in the sector and the value that business travellers see in a bespoke service…

TAG Farnborough Airport provides a good barometer of the health of the Business Aviation sector - what is your sense of the current market in terms of demand, sentiment etc? What can you say about trends in the type of aircraft you are seeing at Farnborough and where those aircraft are originating - are you seeing a trend towards larger cabin and longer range, for example?

The airport continues to grow and handled 24,784* air traffic movements in 2014, an increase of 5.6% over the previous year. In the first quarter of this year, we have seen a further 6.5% growth in movements. We are receiving more and more airliner-derived (50-80 tons maximum take-off weight (MTOW)) and ultra-long range business jets (30-50 tons MTOW) with larger groups on board. Many of these aircraft come from Asia, the Middle East and the US. With the investment in infrastructure development we have made and the bespoke services we offer, we are in an excellent position to accommodate larger groups of passengers and take advantage of the ongoing increasing demand.

What is the airport doing to help Business Aviation thrive - perhaps specifically around bespoke services? What role is the airport playing in helping businesses to be more efficient and the economy overall in the South East and beyond?

Business travellers have specific and ever changing travel requirements. There is often a need to travel to multiple locations in a day to do business and beat the competition. TAG Farnborough Airport is based 40 miles from central London and is the UK’s only dedicated business aviation airport. We offer a wide range of amenities including direct ramp access for customers wanting to drive up to waiting jets to facilitate this sort of economic activity. The airport is a one-stop shop for business aviation operators offering hangar facilities, fuelling and cleaning services. With modern, advanced facilities, we are able to cater for increased numbers of aircraft movements and to provide our customers with the bespoke services they expect from Europe’s leading business aviation airport.

What does the bi-annual Farnborough International Airshow mean for TAG Farnborough Airport?

TAG Farnborough Airport is proud to host the Farnborough International Airshow, which has been held at Farnborough since 1948 and has become the largest global event of its kind. It puts Farnborough Airport on the global map and provides a platform for over 1,500 exhibitors from around 40 countries in aerospace, defence, space and security to showcase aircraft and new technology. Not only is the show important for global trade and the public, it also makes a valuable contribution to the local economy, including the recruitment of temporary staff, mostly young people from the Farnborough area.
