The organisers of Farnborough International Airshow 2016 are working with a specially engaged team to deliver the biggest ever dedicated radio station for the July event. For the first time the official radio station for Farnborough International will be heard on DAB digital across a large part of the south east of England, with a potential audience of 3.8 million, as well as on FM radio in the Farnborough area.

The radio operation will be headed by Fred Marden, who ran the station in the 2000s before stepping back to host the breakfast show on a local BBC radio station and then running media production teaching in a university department.

“I’m so excited to be back,” he said.  “As someone brought up in Farnborough I know just how great the airshow is, and I can’t wait to be involved in covering this prestigious international aerospace event again.”

Farnborough Airshow Radio will broadcast news, interviews, features and commentary from the seven day event.  Unlike previous years it will be all speech, so that listeners will always be assured of hearing the very latest show-related content.

Fred has appointed a high-profile team of radio professionals including BBC World Service presenter Danny Cox, BBC Radio Oxford’s Paul Jenner and specialist business journalist and presenter Paul Hutton.  They will be assisted by a team of experts including Simon Clarke of radio station Wave 105, and former BBC Radio Four announcer Matt Jones.

Andrew Pearcey, Marketing & Communications Director for Farnborough International said “We are thrilled to have Fred, Paul and their team on board to deliver the radio station this year.  With such a professional team of broadcasters and aviation experts on board we know this will provide visitors to the world’s most famous airshow with a great service”.

Notes for Editors:

The station will run in three phases: Set–up on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July, then every day during the trade event Monday 11th-Friday 15th, and then the two public days on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th.  It will broadcast not only on FM to the airfield and surrounding area but also to up 3.8 million people on DAB Digital Radio across Northeast Hampshire, most of Surrey and Southwest London as well as online around the world.
